After successfully initiating Public Health degree programmes in Lahore more than a decade ago, the Centre for Health and Population Studies (CHPS), Pakistan, is now launching a one (1) year evening degree programme of Master in Public Health (MPH) in Islamabad.  The Islamabad MPH launch will take place in December 2008.

Centre for Health and Population Studies (CHPS), Pakistan, having successfully initiated Public Health degree programme in Lahore from 1997, is now launching a one (1) year evening degree programme of Master in Public Health (MPH) in Islamabad from December ‘08.   

Course structure:

The Master in Public Health (MPH) is a 1-year evening degree programme.  It is a 53 credit-hour course that is conducted over one (1) academic year.  The one (1) academic year is divided into 4 semesters.  Each semester is stand alone and is of 3.5 months (14/15 weeks) duration.  The first three (3) consecutive semesters are teaching semesters and the last is for thesis completion.  There are mid-term and final term papers/evaluations per semester, except the last (4th) semester in which the thesis forms the basis of student evaluation.

Cost/s:
The fees for the Islamabad MPH (Fall) session of 2008 is Rs. 160,000/- for the one (1) year (subject to revision for other sessions).  Fees will be charged in four (4) equal installments.  The student has to pay the installment at the start of each semester.  There is an additional one-time admission fee of Rs. 5000/- at the time of admission.  The University registration fee is separate and will be conveyed to the student later.   

Eligibility:
Basic requirement for admission to MPH programme is that the candidate has obtained either an MBBS/BDS degree or its equivalent from a recognized university Or a Master’s degree in nursing, social sciences, life sciences and humanities from a recognized university. These include the subjects of Biochemistry, Microbiology, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Anatomy, Chemistry, Physics, Pharmacy, Psychology, Sociology, Home Economies, Social Work, Nutrition, Business Administration, Computer Science and Public Administration.

Classes and Faculty:

The evening classes are going to begin in December 2008.  CHPS has both full-time and part-time (visiting) faculty that is well qualified and experienced.
