  • Dean & Professor : Dr. Muhammad Anwar,
    Ph.D.
    staff-1.jpgDr. Muhammad Anwar is Dean of CHPS.  He ompleted his Ph.D from the University of Toronto, Canada in 1978.  He has vast experience in teaching and research in Pakistan and abroad.  He entered his profession in 1963 as a Lecturer in the Department of Rural Sociology at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1979 – 1984. He joined the Department of Sociology, University of the Punjab, Lahore, in 1984 and left the Dept. as its Professor/Chairman in 1997.  He was the Director, Social Science Research Centre from 1997 – 2000.  Currently, amongst others, he is the visiting Professor at Department of Sociology, Institute of Business and Information Technology, and Institute of Administrative Sciences, University of the Punjab.
    In Canada, he has enjoyed seasonal appointments from 1975-1978 at the following: Department of Sociology, Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario; Department of Sociology, Laurention University, Sudbury, Ontario; Department of Sociology, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada.  In his professional career, he produced a voluminous number of research reports, research papers, papers for conferences, books etc;
  • Professor: Dr. Hans Frey,
    Ph.D
    Dr. Hans FreyDr. Hans Frey, has a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Southasia Institute of the University of Heidelberg, Germany. He has worked in Pakistan since 1975, including the Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, from 1975 – 1979; represented the German Friedrich-Nauman-Foundation from 1986 – 89; acted as a Consultant in rural development- & local government programs, and for the Northern Area Health Project, 1998-2000;  since 1989 with his late wife, Dr.Nasima Rahman, has helped to build up the Baltistan Health & Education Foundation, of which he is now the Project Manager.   BHEF has a hospital at Skardu, satellite clinics and conducts medical field programs and it is aimed at providing quality health carefor women of the northern areas.  Over the years, Dr. Hans Frey has developed considerable knowledge of healthcare policy in Pakistan.
  • Professor: Mr. Muhammad Ashraf Chatha
    MA Sociology, University of The Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan.
    Mr. Muhammad Ashraf Chatha has a vast professional training exposure in the western and eastern world’s instructional environments.  He has been on the visiting faculty of the University of the Punjab, where he taught Research Methodology to the post graduate students at the Institute of Administrative Sciences.
    As a National Consultant with UNDP, he conducted a series of country wide assessment workshops of the stakeholders on the electoral processes and coordinated a nation wide interactive and consultative process, at the provincial and federal level, to create a Network for Electoral Participation (NEP) and designed its concept and strategic plan. His work also included assessments of more than 60 project proposals and end project evaluation of the 22 UNDP/ECP NGO funded projects.
    He has been the Chief Executive Officer of Family Planning Association of Pakistan, the largest NGO of the country operating in international donor environment. He carries a wide experience in: social planning, policy development, change management, monitoring and reporting and, appraisal of social sector programmes covering women empowerment, Girl Child, poverty alleviation, gender based violence, women  access to safe water and sanitation, and youth sensitization.
    Research and evaluation and institution building form some of the key strengths of Mr. Chatha. He has special skills in institution building, work programming and strategic planning.
    His diversified background experience has enhanced his  capacity as a researcher and his involvement in capacity building initiatives strengthened his teaching skills for sustainable learning. Strategic Planning Organizational development, community mobilization and right based RH and Quality of Care interventions are his area of interest. His extensive experience of working in the donor environment provided him with an edge in change management and equipped him with rare skills of designing and measurability of projects, integrated management & electronic management system (eims).
    His research work covers thematic evaluation, mapping assessment, impact studies, time and motion studies, functional task analysis, quality of care, health seeking behavior and cost effectiveness of change management programmes.

  • Ass. Prof. Dr. Naima Hassan:
    PhD
    Dr. Naima Hassan holds PhD degree psychology. She is a consultant and psychologist in many institutions at home and abroad. She was on the faculty of applied Psychology Department, Centre of Clinical Psychology, Institute of Bankers Pakistan. She has also served on the Prime Minister’s Disaster Management Committee for earthquake beneficiaries and with two international organizations where she worked and provided psychosocial support in District Bagh, Muzaffarabad, Neelum and NWFP projects. She is currently working in CHPS as Advisor. She has conducted/organized over a hundred workshops on subjects of behavioural sciences including stress, time management, communication skills, personality building, health & hygiene, psychosocial support and in other specialized areas and has been a trainer for a long time. She did training on qualitative research, family violence and child sexual abuse at the Family Violence Institute of San Diego. She has written numerous papers and edited two books

  • Ass. Professor: Dr. Noreen Zaffar: M.B.B.S. (Gold Medallist), FRCOG (London), Certified Specialist in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, UK.
    dr-naureen-zafar.gifDr Noreen Zafar is a veteran obstetrics & gynaecology consultant practicing in Pakistan for the past 8 years prior to which she was serving in UK. She holds M.R.C.O.G., London, F.R.C.O.G. London and is UK trained and Certified Specialist in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Throughout her academic career she has been an outstanding student awarded with many distinctions and Gold Medals. Currently she is working as Gynaecology Consultant at Doctors Hospital & Medical Centre, Lahore which is a state of the art health care centre exclusively for girls & women of all ages.

    INTERNATIONAL HONORS
    FIGO International Fellowship granted by American College of Obstetricians and Gyanecologists, Washington, USA and International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics in June 2000 to attend Pre Congress Workshop and FIGO congress in Washington DC, USA in Sept 2000.
    Received a grant of £2000 from Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, London, “Overseas Fund”, in 2001 to visit Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology unit in Liverpool, UK.
    Awarded “Bernhard Baron Traveling Fellowship” by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, London in Nov 2002 to visit Dr. Sarah Creighton’s Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology unit in the University College Hospital, London, in summer of 2003
    Elected member of RCOG Pakistan representative committee in 2004s
    “National Women Award” for recognition of extra – ordinary services in the field of girls and women health on 4th August 2007 in Lahore.

    Her prime interest is to promote awareness among Pakistani girls and women bout the concept of entire well being and wellness . Her mission is to provide health care at international standards in a pleasant atmosphere. The intention is only not to see women with illnesses but also provide help and resources to improve the quality of life and health of all who visit us.

  • Ass. Professor : Dr. Saman Yazdani Khan, 
    M.B.B.S, Master in Public Health (MPH), M.Sc.Community Health.
    dr-saman.jpgDr. Saman Yazdani Khan founded and established the Centre for Health and Population Studies, (CHPS),

    Pakistan in 1999.  She has been the Director of the same since then (with breaks).  CHPS is the first of its kind in the private sector in

    Pakistan.  She has been involved in research, teaching and curriculum development for different topics related to Public Health.  Also she has looked after the administrative aspects of CHPS, including linking with other organizations, at the international, national and regional levels, and looking at the financial and operative level issues of the institute.
    Dr. Khan’s has extensive international experience which has been very useful for the work and development of CHPS, particularly given the conditions and situation of certain section of women in Pakistan, despite the advances of the last 50 years. Dr. Khan has been deeply involved with the WHO programs to improve the health condition of women, particularly in relation to reproductive rights. For instance, she was the Environmental Health Training Officer and Reproductive Health Focal Person, World Health Organization (WHO) Emergency Cell,

    Islamabad, Pakistan 2005-2006.  At WHO, she assisted in developing, monitoring and evaluating maternal and neonatal country activities, within the framework of the National Strategy for Reproductive Health. This was carried out in coordination with concerned UN and International agencies, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders.  Dr. Khan has also experience in liaising with other UN agencies, including UNICEF.  During 1998, she was the UNICEF Program Officer for Health and Nutrition.  In addition to WHO and UNICEF, she has worked with several international organizations such as KfW Bank, the David and Lucille Packard foundation and Oxfam.
    Dr. Khan has organized and participated in a large number of international conferences and workshops on matters related to reproductive rights, women’s health and population issues. Her engagement has included speaking, preparing and participating in workshops on sensitive issues like gender equality, child marriages, abortion and HIV/AIDS in

    Pakistan. She has also promoted the Millennium Development Goals and other matters related to sustainable development.  Dr. Khan has been outspoken in her views, including in radio programs and in newspapers. Her research has covered a variety of topics related to these matters, some of which has been presented internationally. Among these, it can be highlighted “Gender vulnerabilities in contracting HIV/AIDS in Pakistan” presented at the 3rd Asia Pacific Conference on Reproductive and Sexual Health, November 2005, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She has also developed the Training manual on Social Development for Public Sector Decision Makers, for UNICEF, Lahore.Currently she is working with Shirkat Gah, a research and advocacy organization focused on Women. This and her current teaching activities at CHPS are related to her training and background. Dr. Khan is M.B.B.S., from Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Punjab University, Lahore, Pakistan, and Master in Public Health from Karachi University, Pakistan. Moreover, she has a M.Sc. in Community Health from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. In addition, she has had numerous teaching experiences. For instance, during the late 1990’s she was the Program organizer and Assistant Professor at the MPH Program of the Pakistan American Institute of Management Sciences, Lahore. Amongst her different honours and awards, Dr. Khan has also recently been associated with the Stockholm Challenge as an international jurist.  Her engagement with the Challenge Award is highlighted by her background and her interest in health issues, women and reproductive rights, as well a balanced global development viewpoint.


VISITING FACULTY MEMBERS:

  • Dr. Mrs. Tasleem Akhtar: M.B.B.S., DCH, MRCP, FRCP.
    Dr. Tasleem Akhtar has over 25 years experience as a senior health manager and in this capacity as an advisor to the government of Pakistan on wide ranging issues of the health sector. Dr. Akhtar’s vision and ability to operationalize ideas through motivating team members proved crucial in her leadership roles that grew the Pakistan Medical Research Council and the National Institute for the Handicapped in Islamabad and the Provincial Health Services Academy in Peshawar, into nationally recognized entities. During her tenure as head of PMRC the first ever National Health Survey of Pakistan (NHSP) was completed, reported and widely disseminated to a whole range of stakeholders. She was able to mobiles funding for a  National Health Education impact survey, a NHSP follow up survey and the Institutionalisation of Health Systems Research through establishment of HSR Centres in Health Directorates of the four provinces and AJ&K. She was successful in acquiring major funding from the Ministry of Science and Technology for the establishment of a Health Information Resource Centre at PMRC Head Office Islamabad. Her special achievement was the establishment of the first National Bioethics Committee of Pakistan. Under her leadership, PMRC developed linkages with leading Health, Science and Technology and Higher Education Institutions within country and health research institutions internationally. The latter include Johns Hopkins University and the National Centre for Health Statistics USA, WHO RPC Department, Geneva, WHO RPC Unit, EMRO Office, Cairo, Council on Health Research for Development (COHRED), Global Forum for Health Research and the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research.After accepting additional charge of the then dysfunctional National Institute for the Handicapped, Dr. Akhtar was successful in doubling the annual budget of the Institute, operationalising its non-functioning hi-tech CT-Scan and MRI equipment, developing and acceptable to all income sharing formula (which was the cause of contention and the dysfunctional state of the institute) and above all motivate faculty and staff to organize and implement Continuing Medical Education and fund raising  activities. Her excellent record with the government and proven technical ability were recognized by the NWFP government in their request to the federal government for her to serve as the Director for the Provincial Health Service Academy (PHSA) in Peshawar on deputation for three years.  As a result of her dedication and successful implementation of the Academy training program, DFID offered to divert unutilized funds to establish a Health Information Centre at the Academy. Dr. Akhtar has demonstrated ability to advise, train, and supervise in the area of public health.
  • Dr. Faran Emmanuel: M.B.B.S., M.Sc. Epidemiology (with Distinction), AKU, Pakistan.
    Dr. Faran Emmanuel is the
    Chief Technical Officer of the HIV/AIDS Surveillance Project (HASP) which is a component of the Enhanced HIV/AIDS Control Program of the Ministry of Health (MoH), Government of Pakistan (GoP) and supported by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). The purpose of HASP is to enhance the capacity of the GoP to implement an effective Second Generation Surveillance (SGS) System for HIV/AIDS. Being the Chief Technical Officer, his prime responsibilities include: 1) Developing research protocols for conducting mapping studies & Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance with vulnerable groups (Injection drug users, Female sex workers, Men having sex with males & Transvestites: 2) Supervision and monitoring of all research based field activities at a National level: 3) Assisting the program management in identification and contracting of research partners (including laboratories and Research Institutions/NGOs) for implementation of IBBS: 4) Training of Research partners and project staff on fundamentals of conducting Epidemiological & Behavioral research: 5) Development of a Data Management System for both Biological and Behavioral data: and 6) Data analysis and report writing.  He has also worked as the Project Supervisor – Impact Assessment & Evaluation, TAWANA,
    Pakistan till March 2004 where he studied the impact and benefits of the project.  He has taught Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the AKU in 2003 and before that worked at CARITAS, Pakistan, at Lahore coordinating the Diocesan Health Department.  He has also worked at the supervisory level for the DAPDR Program till July 1995.   His research experience includes national and international work.  At the international level, he has the following work to his name 1) Mapping of High risk groups for HIV/AIDS in Afghanistan 2006: 2) Strategy paper on HIV/AIDS prevention and control for South Asia 2005.  At the National level, his work includes the following 1) Baseline survey of MSMs, FSWs and PLWHA in the Punjab, 2) Mapping of MARA and EVA in 07 cities of Pakistan for UNICEF in 2007; 3) Mapping of High risk groups for HIV/AIDS in 12 cities in Baluchistan in 2007; 4) Acceptability of Female condom use among brothel based FSWs (Female Sex Workers) in Lahore, Pakistan in 2006;  5) Prevalence of condom use and associated factors among commercial sex workers in Karachi, Pakistan in  2006;  6) HIV risk behavior and practices among street children in Pakistan in 2004; 7) Solvent abuse among street children in Pakistan in 2003.
    He has attended various conference and presented papers there.   • Dr. Khurram Shahzad: M.B.B.S., Masters in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, AKU, Pakistan

    Dr. Khurram ShahzadDr. Khurram Shahzad is program officer in Family Health International (FHI). His two and a half years work in FHI includes project management and evaluation activities. The duties also include capacity building activities at national level related to HIV and AIDS prevention, care and support. Before joining FHI, he has served in UNICEF Islamabad office in polio eradication program as research coordinator. He was involved with evaluation survey for communication campaigns. The reports he prepared helped refine communication programming at national level. Dr. Shahzad has participated in various international conferences and workshops related to HIV and AIDS. During his master’s training in Aga Khan University (2002-04), he did groundbreaking research on asthma in leather tannery workers which has been published in an international journal.  He has also facilitated courses on Biostatistics and Epidemiology for the undergraduate students at the Aga Khan University. Dr. Shahzad did his MBBS from Rawalpindi Medical College in 2001.

    Shahzad ArianMr. Shahzad Arian has over five year of experience in Information technology and IT management.  He is a diligent IT professional who manages multiple tasks and works well under pressure. Vast experience in installing, troubleshooting and repairing hardware, software and peripherals, plus training of end users. Able to apply consultative approach to resolving issues. Extremely patient at providing clear and simple explanations and works closely with people to develop solutions to their computer problems. Hands on management style with expertise in: client needs, efficiency, cutting-edge technology, training, and following policies and procedures. Constantly updates knowledge on new IT related technologies by reading articles on the Internet and newspapers and by reading books.

    Dr. Masood Khan Jogezai completed Master in Public Health (MPH) degree from the Health Services Academy (HSA), Faculty of Medicine, Quaid-e-Azam University; Islamabad in the year 2001 after completing MBBS from Rawalpindi Medical College in 1995
    The major demonstrated experience spread over ten years in public health sectors range from the Policy decision, Need assessment, development of Technical Proposals, work plan, strategic documents, program implementation, budgeting, Operation research, Forecasting, developing of items specification and procurements of drug/medicines, non-drug items and printing materials, logistic supply chain management, Community mobilization Building partnerships, coordination with Public to public & Private Partnership, addressing complex issues, disaster management, Conducting field visits, program reporting, surveillance of diseases, Development of training manual/ IEC materials, program planning, facilitating case management training workshops & Interpersonal communication workshops/ orientation session.He had a working experience with DFID, UNICEF, WHO, CIDA, Global Fund, UNFPA, USAID, GAVI-HSS, funded project in Pakistan.He worked as a Deputy National Coordinator, NP for FP & PHC MoH, Islamabad (1st August 07 to 01 June 09). Project Coordinator / Manager, Global Fund, Malaria R II Malaria Control Program, MOH, Islamabad (5th May 05 to 30th Sep 06) Consultant National HMIS Cell/IDSP Project in 2005, 06, to 07 respectively. He also worked as Senior Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Community Health Sciences discipline of IMDC and FUMC (2002 to 2004)Currently working as National Emergency Coordinator, International Medical Corps with the aim to provide 24/7 comprehensive primary health care, ante-natal, post natal, health eduction, psychological councelling through mobile/static health facilities, providing medicines, equipments, disposable to the IDPs living in the host families/Camps of Swabi, Charsadda & returnees to the buner, Swat districts of NWFP since 15th June 2009Dr. Jogezai carried out numerous surveys/studies like development of national Health information feed back Report 2007/08. The report analyzed the data regarding maternal, child health conditions and medicines/Contraceptive situation of first level care facilities & community based lady health workers (NP for FP & PHC). Other are assessment of medicl condition/disease by history taking, GPE, systemic examination and status of Mal-nutrition among school goding children (boys & girls) in two union council of Bagh and Muzaffarabad, AJK (2007-08). Assessment of knowledge, attitude and practice on tuberculosis disease of school going children in Pakistan (2007-08)Dr. Jogezai attend international and national courses, such as Commodity Security: Principles and Practice, Funded by USAID / Deliver Project Dare-e-Salaam, Tanzania, 26-31 January 2009.
  • Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan

    Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan
    Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan graduated in 1991 from King Edward Medical College Lahore Pakistan; did one year House-job in Pediatrics at Mayo Hospital Lahore in 1992. Joined public sector health facility in Attock as Medical Officer in 1993 and worked there until 2002.
    In 2000 he completed his MBA with Majors in Financial Management; in 2002 he did Masters of Public Health (MPH) from Health Services Academy, Ministry of Health Islamabad.
    He did the Course work of PhD in 2004-05 and completed his PhD Thesis under supervision of Dr. Sania Nishtar in 2008.
    He has worked as Deputy Medical Superintendent and Additional Medical Superintendent of the Social Security Hospital Islamabad.
    Joined as Assisant Professor of Community Medicine at Islamabad Medical and Dental College (IMDC) in 2006; the college is attached with the Social Security Hospital Islamabad.
    Currently working as Assistant Professor Health Systems, and Program Coordinator for Extended-MSPH Program at the Health Services Academy, Federal Ministry of Health Islamabad Pakistan.
    Also the Visiting Faculty of the Islamabad Medical and Dental College Islamabad Pakistan as Assistant Professor Community Medicine and Visiting Faculty in Public Health at the Armed Forces Postgraduate Medical Institute (AFPGMI) Rawalpindi.
    Also working as Public Health Consultant and Executive Member of the Pakistan Health Policy Forum at Heartfile; involved in health policy research for re-orienting the health systems in Pakistan.
  • Dr. Tabinda Zaman

    Dr. Tabinda Zaman
    Dr. Tabinda Zaman graduated in 1991 from King Edward Medical College Lahore Pakistan. After one year residency in Pediatrics at Mayo Hospital Lahore in 1992, she has been working in various government health facilities as physician.In 2008 she completed her Masters of Public Health (MSPH) from Health Services Academy, Federal Ministry of Health Islamabad.She has done various international and national level postgraduate courses, such as: Certificate Course in Logistics for Health Commodities; Certificate Course in Antenatal Care; Certificate Course in Population, Health and Environmental Basics; Certificate Course in Hospital Dietetics; Certificate Course in Health Services Management; Certificate Course in Health Care Marketing; Certificate Course in Reproductive health; Certificate Course (HOPE) in Emergency medicine; Certificate Course in Community obstetrics.In addition to her public sector managerial responsibilities, she is also involved in teaching and research. She is a Visiting Faculty in Reproductive Health at the Armed Forces Postgraduate Medical Institute (AFPGMI) Rawalpindi. She is also the Faculty in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Disease Control and Public Health at Islamabad Campus of Sarhad University MPH Programme.
  • Dr. Tahira Reza: M.B.B.S., Masters in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, AKU, Pakistan
    Dr. Tahira Reza is currently working in the capacity of epidemiologist at  HIV/AIDS Surveillance Project (HASP) which is a component of the Enhanced HIV/AIDS Control Program of the Ministry of Health (MoH), Government of Pakistan (GoP) and supported by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). Her prime responsibilities are to provide direction and support to HASP database administrator for operability and functionality of surveillance database, data analysis, formatting and preparation of reports for both national and provincial levels and contribute to strengthening the capacity of National and Provincial AIDS Control programs to respond to HIV/AIDS epidemic by providing technical support and training of surveillance teams. After her graduation from AKU, Dr Tahira had worked as research coordinator for three years in reproductive health project at the department of community health sciences, AKU. During her stay in Karachi, she has conducted number of trainings for the doctors of public hospital on research methodology. Dr Tahira did her MBBA from Ayub medical college in 1998.
  • Dr. Riffat Ayesha:
    M.Sc, PhD

    Dr. Riffat AyeshaDr. Riffat obtained her PhD degree in Biology/ Endocrinology from Quaid-e- Azam,  University, Islamabad, Her M. Sc was in Human Nutrition, from Agriculture University Faisalabad. She specialized in Child Nutrition from University of Rome, Italy and Diploma in PAMM Laboratory Management from CDC Atlanta Georgia. In 1978 She started her career as Scientific Officer in the Nutrition Division, National Institute of Health (former National Health Laboratories), Islamabad and now working as Chief Nutrition Division.She has also been associated with the Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad as visiting Faculty Member since initiation of M. Sc program in Community Health and Nutrition and  has supervised research thesis for more than ten students, who have been awarded the degree.She has conducted the National Nutrition Surveys 1985-85 and 2001-2002 and than has 43 publications at her credit in form of Research Reports, Research Papers/ Abstracts, Chapters in Text Books and Survey Manuals.She is National Coordinator for WHO Food Safety Program and actively engaged in development / revision of food standards in collaboration with PSQCA, Karachi. Worked as Short Term Consultant with organizations like UNWFP, Save the Children, CONCERN, WHO etc. Represented Pakistan in different countries and has attended a number of international workshops/ conferences/ meetings.
  • Dr. Rashid Saeed:

    Dr. Rashid Saeed joined Department of Environmental Science as Assistant professor at International Islamic University Islamabad having sought his PhD degree in year 2007 from University of Bucharest Romania on Cultural Exchange scholarship Scheme of Ministry of Education Pakistan. The main areas addressed in his PhD research work include Environmental management, Environmental Health and rural Development. Besides 100% score in PhD course work, he earned the honour to win two gold medals for distinctions at graduate and post graduate level. Prior to leaving Pakistan for his doctoral studies in year 2003, he had been serving Forest Department Balochistan as Soil Conservation Officer. During the same span, he had an opportunity to serve as the Head of “Sand Dune Stabilization” project in Balochistan for almost 2 years. Possession of a Masters degree in Agricultural sciences, a Masters degree in Political Science and another LLB degree, make him a model of multidisciplinarity. Being HEC approved PhD supervisor, he is supervising MS research projects of 12 students with varying research areas including “Water borne Disease prevalence in Squatter settlements of Pakistan”, Poverty and Environment linkages, Gender and Environment linkages, River water pollution and health issues, disaster risk reduction through human development, Occupational health and safety, etc. Six students have already completed their MS research projects under his supervision and are on their way to pursue their doctoral research under his supervision. He’s currently serving CHPS as a visiting faculty member at Islamabad campus.
  • Muhammad Ihatsham Akram,
    MPH.
    Mr Ihatsham, a graduate of CHPS, has been working in the field of public health for last 8 years. Currently working as Manager, Communication, Advocacy and Research at Save the Children US, Pakistan Office, Mr Ihatsham has been contributing to the field of public health in various capacities at organizational positions as well as independent consultant. He started his career as a voluntary research associate with a local NGO MESSAGE in Lahore and gradually progressed to the current position. Prior to joining Save the Children US, the key organizations which have been employer of Mr. Ihatsham includes CHPS, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad, National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) Pakistan, Lady Health Workers Programme (MoH, Pak) and Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health Programme (MoH, Pak). He has worked as Research Officer for CHPS, MNCH Training Coordinator for In Country Training Programme on Safe Motherhood at PIMS and Health Section Incharge at NRSP. With LHWP and MNCHP of MoH, Pakistan, he was hired as Behavior Change Communication Specialist (BCC) as part of technical assistance by Save the Children, US to MoH and now has been redesignated as Manager Communication, Advocacy and Research. As independent consultant he has worked for the World Bank, Johns Hopkins Centre for Communication Programmes (JHUCCP), JHPIEGO, Ministry of Health (MoH) Pakistan, Rahnuma, World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, JICA and John Snow Inc (JSI). As independent consultant his most of work is concentrated around qualitative and quantitative research. His key assignments included “Evaluation of Quality of Care in Public Sector (BHUs and RHCs) in Pakistan”(the World Bank), Field Programme Officers (FPO) Survey (LHWP, MoH), Assessment of the implementation of the module/training “Use of Information (LHW-MIS) for decision making at the District Level” and to document the Basis for Planning and Decision Making Process by the District Programme Managers (LHWP, MoH), End of the Project Evaluation: Collaboration between Armed Forces and FPAP Reproductive Health and Family Planning for Men through NGO/Public Sector Intervention (Rahnuma), Base Line Survey in Oghi, Kaghan, Siran in Manshera District, (World Vision) and Evaluation of Chief Minister’s Initiative for Primary Health Care in district Rahim Yar Khan (Punjab), a project of the World Bank. Besides, he has translated various materials which include modules and a book into Urdu for use in Pakistan.Besides, he has been involved in writing several successful proposals, developing behavior change communication materials, developing and implementing the National MNCH Communication Strategy framework for Pakistan and implementing community based social mobilization for health projects.Mr. Ihatsham has enriched his academics by attending various short trainings in addition to his MPH. The key trainings received by him include trainings on Strategic Health Communication, Policy Level Advocacy, Proposal Writing, Gender Sensitization, Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation and Leadership.
